Flushing your Personal Home Air Conditioner

A regular schedule flushing of the air condition system needs to be done in order to keep it working efficiently and properly. Whenever you notice that the temperature of your room is getting warm instead of cool, therefore it is time for you to start cleaning and do some flushing on the air condition unit. At least do the flushing exercise once a year so that you can make the most use out of your air condition system. It is an easy task to do if you know what you are doing and follow the instructions accordingly. The information provided below should be able to help you flush your personal home air conditioners and save cost on your maintenance expenses.

What you need to consider doing:

  1. Screwdriver
  2. Stiff brush
  3. Household bleach
  4. Wire
  5. Tape

Method:

  1. First thing that you must always do is to make sure you turn off all the electrical power supply or turn off its breaker before starting on your cleaning task for safety precautions. After that, you can start disassembling the cover of the unit.
  2. The air condition evaporator is normally placed behind a film of insulation and it is generally taped in place for maintaining the integrity of the insulation. In order to view the access plate, you need to carefully remove the tape from the air conditioner and its insulation. This access plate can be removed by unscrewing its screw and once it is removed, it can be easily removed directly from the air conditioner. From there on you will be able to view clearly the evaporator which looks like rows of fine metal plates.
  3. Start cleaning the evaporator with its underside where all of the incoming air blows into it. Use a stiff brush in removing all the dirt and to make the cleaning exercise much easier, slide the evaporator out a little bit from its existing place and be extra careful as to not damage the pipes attached to it.
  4. After that, you need to clean the condensate tray with one tablespoon of bleach so that fungus will not grow in the area. This will also help prevent clogs happening on the weep hole. If there is too much water in the tray, use a wire for opening up the weep hole from any existing clogs.

By now, you will know how to flush your personal home air conditioners thus save costing on your maintenance expenses.
