Crawl Space Safety

In general, crawl spaces are located and known as the base of the home. This area is mostly affected by problems such as moisture damage, mold growth and rodent infestation. Here are some important safety precautions that you can do when assessing a crawl space for potential dangers and hazards.

Important Safety Precautions

  1. For the basic safety, keep the crawl spaces free from any standing water, which is in combination with the electrical wiring and other electrical components. This hazard could bring to the risk of electrical shock.
  2. Prevent the risk of injury to those who enter the crawl space area by keeping the space clean from any debris such as nails. Check the joists and foundation for any evidence of damage and evaluate the structural integrity before entering into the crawl space.
  3. If the area has a gas or chemical smell, avoid yourselves or others from entering into the crawl space. Make sure to wear protective equipment such as protective gloves and clothing, and a respirator mask in case of mold suspected.
  4. Check the crawl space with a flashlight before entering the space. If you are working alone, bring a cell phone in case you need to call for help. Examine the area for any dangerous snakes, rodents and insects before entering the place.
