Classy and elegant are the reasons why marble tabletops become choices for anyone’s house. Because of the natural stone, which is marble, being used for the table it will last longer than any other furniture materials you have. Plus, marble tabletops are durable and sturdy in nature. However, since marble is categorized as soft stone, it can suffer from scratches from everyday and common wear and tear. If your marble tabletop has few scratches within the surface, they can be easily repaired by using these steps.

You will need:

1. Mild dish detergent
2. Three soft cloths
3. 320-grit sandpaper
4. Pieces in between 120 and 320-grit sandpaper
5. Buffing pad
6. Small plastic bucket
7. Wood spoon
8. 120-grit sandpaper
9. Marble polish
10. Chamois

Marble Top

Steps:

1. First, take a small plastic bucket and fill it with warm water. Put two to three drops of mild dish detergent and mix the solution with a wood spoon until it turns soapy.
2. Use a clean and soft cloth and dip it into the soapy warm water. Take it out, and wring it until it is slightly damp. With the damp cloth, rub the marble top on the scratched area to remove dirt and grit from the scratch.
3. Then, dip a clean and dry cloth into warm water to dampen it.
4. Use the damp cloth to rinse away any soap residue that may still be on the marble tabletop.
5. You can prevent your marble tabletops from scratches by cleaning the marble with a damp cloth daily.
6. Next, use a dry and clean cloth to dry and to buff the marble tabletop surface. Rub the dry cloth over the marble surface until it shines.
7. Applying moderate pressure, rub the marble scratch back and forth with a piece of 120-grit sandpaper and continue to rub the scratch with different pieces of sandpaper.
8. Start with smaller grit sandpaper up to using 320-grit sandpaper until the scratch is gone from your marble tabletop.
9. Remove all the sanding dust by wiping them with a dampened cloth. Make sure to wipe all of the sanding dust as any dust left behind will cause more scratches on the marble. Take a small amount of marble polish and dab it onto a buffing pad. Apply short and circular strokes when buffing the marble tabletop. Repeat the polish step until you have achieved the desired shine on your marble tabletop.
10. Finally, use a chamois to wipe the marble polish from the marble tabletop by rubbing it over the entire tabletop to get an even polish and shine. Chamois is a type of soft leather that feels good when being used beneath your hands.
