A driveway gate is not just the main entrance to your house but it also maintains your property\’s privacy and ensures safety. At the same time, you are creating a safe area for your kids and pets to play. Although, a gated driveway can be possibly built within minimal budget price, you still have to work harder to make this happen. Below are guides on how to build a driveway gate.
What you need:
- 2 large posts (6-feet high and 4-feet thick)
- 4 vertical framing stiles of treated lumber/PVC (1½-by-3½-inch)
- Tape measure
- 1 large bag cement mix
- Electric drill
- Lattice for top panels
- Tongue and groove treated lumber/PVC for panels (3/4-by-5½-inch)
- 2 treated lumber/PVC for middle rails (1/2-by-3-½-inch)
- Shovel/Hammer
- Large screws (2-inch long)
- Lock, 4 to 6 large swinging brackets
Method:
- Measure width of driveway entrance. The measurement should be 4¼-inch outward from where the gates will be placed and marked the area for the posts.
- Dig holes with shovel at least 2½-feet deep and ensure each of the post is level with one another when you start to insert it into the hole.
- Pour cement mix along with appropriate amount of water around each of the posts and ensure that the posts do not move thus maintaining its even position.
- Lay out the framing stiles for each gate and screw to connect the top and two sides together on each gate. Cut the lattice according to same size, place it on top of each of the gates and screw them securely.
- Attach middle pieces on both gates by screwing them into the two sides securely. Cut each panels according to size and screw them on the bottom part of the gate (below the lattice and middle piece). Install hinges to connect each gate to the posts which will enable them to swing, open to 180 degrees and hold up to 200lb weight capacity.
- Finally, attach the lock to gates and ensure it is secured. For locking it to the ground, use a metal bar which is secured to the gate and connected to a hole in the ground.
And there you have it, your own driveway gate. Now you no longer have to worry on who\’s trespassing your property.
