Method:

  1. For those of you who wanted to use a completely custom system, you need to purchase each pieces of the components for your system. But for your information, it is much easier to purchase a complete alarm kit rather than you assemble a security system’s entire component.
  2. A basic alarm kit may cost you as much as 100 or 200 dollars at the most and you would be able to add on any extra components in future whenever the need arise.
  3. A complete alarm kit can be purchased online via eBay as well as from online retailers or even you look for it from your local security stores.
  4. The next step that you need to do is to assemble a plan of attack that you might think a burglar would do to break into your house.
  5. Make sure that your entire exterior door and window is covered by your system sensors for instance glass break sensors or motion detectors that you placed in strategic area where you think is a possible area to be used by any intruders.
  6. The sensors need to install across your house. For those of you who use a wireless system, it is much easier because you just need to adhere and sets each of its sensors in place and turn its control board on.
  7. As for wired components, it is a much difficult task to do due to the system having a line where it must be run through your house wall. Another option is to remove your baseboards and then run your wiring along the floor before you hide it by replacing the baseboards.
  8. Each of the wiring line should be able to run back to your common area where the central unit or keypad is located and installed.
  9. Apart from that, the connecting wires should also be connected to the central alarm unit enabling your sensors, keypads and also the alarm siren to correspond with each other.
  10. Other accessories like battery backup and telephone broadcasting should also be able to get connected to the unit and the control board must be mounted in a hidden area (such as a utility room or closet) where it is not easily accessed by unwanted persons.
  11. You would be able to control the entire system through the keypad, plus also allowing you to pre-programmed your own private password or code where this will enable you access of activating complete protection or even selected protection for windows and doors only especially for night usage.
  12. The keypad also acts as your mode of communication or configuration to the system; therefore you must ensure that the keypad is installed in a suitable area for you to easily access such as right beside your entrance door. This is for having easy access of the system and disables it quickly before it goes off during emergency cases.
  13. In addition, you should also consider having backup battery for your security system in the event of no supply of electricity.
  14. You can also deter any potential intruders by placing security system sign or their advertisement stickers on doors, windows as well as your garden.
